First up: If you’re in the Calgary area, you can find me at the YYC Alternative Market on Nov. 24 at the Inglewood Community Association Hall.
Next, This is where I officially announce that Blessed are the Forgetful will be going live, with new pages being published weekly, starting Nov. 24.
“Some people are lucky enough to be able to just live their lives. Some of us will never stop needing to earn ours.
In a world where memories can be removed or broadcast (but only if the receiver has enough context) three freelancers travel from town to town (and planet to planet), trying to piece together a way to keep themselves moving.
This is the Forget-me Knot. It makes this world functional. as a small tattoo behind the ear, the Knot is the dermal circuitry allowing communication with a sub-dermal mesh which interacts with the hippocampus. A dermal piercing in the centre of the tattoo (the “me”) acts as a magnetic dock, allowing memory storage devices and memory transfer devices to connect.
But all you really need to know is when you offload a memory, it’s not in your head anymore. You cannot copy.
Blessed are the Forgetful is a project that is about trauma. Big trauma, little trauma, life unvarnished. The life I’ve lived has involved my fair share of drama and trauma, as have the lives of the people around me, and I feel like there isn’t anything out there that speaks about these things as honestly as I want them to.
That’s not to say that it will be brutal. Yes, sometimes, if I do my job right, a reader will cry. But they’ll also laugh. They’ll relate with defense mechanisms and the dark humour that often comes with them. Each issue should be a journey and a roller-coaster, not just a downer. There’s a lot of fun planned. But it will get intense.
I hope you’ll like it.
